Content managed by ACS is compatible with hundreds of existing e-reading apps and devices, including the Sony® Reader™ devices, the Barnes & Noble NOOK™, Kobo eReader, and many more. This means that customers who own one of these devices can access and consume content from your e-bookstore - you don't have to create your own e-reading app.
In addition, your customers can simply download and install the free Adobe Digital Editions rich internet application to purchase, manage and read your content on their computer. All you have to do is set up your content.

Adobe Content Server supports both EPUB and PDF file formats. EPUB is the industry-standard XML-based format for eBook content. It is lightweight and optimized for low-power mobile devices. It supports text reflow, automatically reformatting content for optimal viewing on particular screen in use. It supports increases or decreases in font size for readability. And it supports all the capabilities of Adobe DRM for managing and securing content.
The PDF file format is also supported, along with all the functionality of Adobe DRM. Note however that PDF is by nature not a "reflowable" file format; rather, its focus is more on preserving page integrity. Therefore the user experience of reading PDF documents on different screen sizes will depend on the specific capabilities (e.g., zooming, scrolling, panning) and implementation of the particular device or app being used.
Datalogics offers an installation and configuration service for those ACS customers who are interested. We will work with you to design an ACS configuration based on your requirements and existing infrastructure; perform the actual installation, configuration and activation of your ACS software, creating a working sample eBookstore; and provide recommendations on how to integrate ACS into your existing websites. For more information, please contact us directly.
You can try ACS for yourself, on your own premises, through the Datalogics Evaluation Program. Evaluating ACS on your own machines, in your own environment, can give you the best idea of how it will work when actually deployed. Our program enables you to download a fully-functioning version of Adobe Content Server (including documentation), on the platform of their choice, for a limited time. During this evaluation period, you will have access to a dedicated Technical Support individual, who can answer questions and assist with installation, configuration, and usage issues.
For more information about our Evaluation Program, or to request ACS software, please see our Software Evaluation Program page.
Content publishers to manage content via ACS may wish to build custom branded viewer apps tied directly to their e-bookstore. These can be built using Adobe Reader Mobile SDK, a developer toolkit built specifically for this purpose. Adobe Reader Mobile SDK is also available from Datalogics. More information can be found here.
Adobe Vendor ID is a separate standalone toolkit which can be used to streamline the content authorization and device activation process for eBooks, improving the eReading experience for your users. For more information, visit our Adobe Vendor ID page.
To participate in our free 30 day eval program, simply fill out our Eval Request Form, and we'll contact you to review your requirements and arrange delivery of evaluation software. You will receive full support, email and phone, at no cost during your evaluation period.
